Poker is a game with a somewhat rich and slightly mysterious history going back over five hundred years. While Texas Hold’Em is currently the world’s most popular form of pokerstars.fr both online and offline, there are other forms of poker that are still played. While Draw poker and Stud poker remain popular around the world, some other less known variants of poker including Omaha Hold’Em, Manila or “Seven-Up,” and several others variants.
In Omaha Hold’Em, it is the same as Texas with only two exceptions: The first is that each player is dealt four cards at the beginning of the hand. The second is that each player must use exactly three of the five community cards and two of their four hole cards to create their five-card hand. Otherwise, the game follows exactly the same rules as Texas. Another possible version of the Omaha variant allows the use of any combination of hole and community cards to create their winning five-card hand.
Manila or “Seven-Up” Poker is played with a stripped deck. Any card below the rank of seven is removed to create a deck with just 32 cards. Each player is dealt two hole cards and five community cards are dealt one at a time with a round of betting following after each community card is revealed. At showdown, Manila follows Omaha as opposed to Texas Hold’Em, with both hole cards and three community cards used to create the best possible hand. Because of the stripped deck, the hierarchy of hands changes slightly, with a Flush beating a full house and Aces cannot be played low for a straight.
Follow the Queen is a variant where the first card dealt face up is immediately after a queen is dealt face up. If the queen is the last card dealt face up, then the queens are wild. If there are no queens dealt, then there are no wilds for the given hand. Betting is the same as in normal seven card stud games.
Countdown is a five-card variant in which the dealer deals each player five cards face down. Countdown earns in name from the countdown to the showdown. After the first round of betting, each player may replace zero to three cards. Upon completion of a second round of betting, up to two cards can be exchanged for new ones. Upon completing the third round of betting, any player still in the game can replace one final card. The cost of cards doubles for each round of betting. For example, a card cost of $10 in the first round, becomes $20 in the second and $40 in the final round. The cost of new cards goes in the pot. After the final round of betting, the highest five-card hand will win.
There are many more, less known or famous variants of poker. Some are played globally others are played just locally. Whatever the variant played however, Texas Hold’Em will continue to dominate the scene in the years to come.
